Artist Statement
I created this piece of art to capture the feeling of an early morning walk in deep winter, where everything is shades of melancholy blue, and you can feel the bitter cold down to your bones. Yet I believe that in even the bleakest situations, we are able to bring warmth and a flush of color into a desolate world; case in point, the subject of this piece is a mix of pink and red and peach against a cold stark background. She stares defiantly at the viewer, and the one burst of color she brings immediately directs people’s eyes towards her. I hoped through this piece that I could represent the beauty of aesthetic of winter, but even more so, humanity.
