The study of history and the social sciences forms a key element of any secondary education. It enables students to develop an intellectual, cultural and ethical framework for participation in academic and civil society. Given the volume of knowledge in history and the social sciences, the core of the curriculum focuses on the construction of essential questions and the processes for gathering and evaluating information to answer such questions. Furthermore, history by its very nature serves as a structure for the integration of knowledge among academic disciplines.
