The rough-haired, glandular leaves are up to 40 cm (16 in) long and are divided into several large lance-shaped or oval lobes.
The plant can grow 2-4 ft tall. Smooth, alternating leaves branch out closer to the bottom and are toothed. The flower head is composed of 4-10 yellow drooping ray flowers surrounding head of green-greyish sterile disk flowers.
