“And still it Moves”... the words of Galileo ring through the centuries, a clarion call for the freedom of scientific inquiry. But what really happened between Galileo and the authorities of the Catholic Church in the early 17th century? In this session, we will examine the details of the trial of Galileo and place them in the context of 17th century physics, astronomy, philosophy, and religion. We will pay special attention to the relationship of religion and science and to the personality of Galileo himself.
