Abstract
Extracurriculars can be expensive and difficult to access for students in lower-income areas. One student in Dorchester, Boston, Massachusetts, found it difficult to join his school’s baseball team due to the equipment costing upwards of 600 dollars. Despite their high cost, extracurriculars are an essential part of education. Studies show that extracurriculars benefit students, as those participating in such activities had less unexcused absences, fewer skipped classes, a GPA of 3.0 or above, had the higher quartile scores on a composite math and reading assessment, and expected to earn a bachelor's degree or higher. ExtraActs is a project dedicated to helping supply the equipment, facilities, and volunteers necessary to run different kinds of athletic events and various extracurriculars in the Aurora, Illinois, area. We intend in keeping As opposed to other similar programs, ExtraActs intends on keeping membership fees low by using facilities provided by schools and athletic centers.
