Abstract

American citizens have many more privileges compared to the citizens of several third world countries. Because of these many freedoms we have, it results in us taking several aspects of daily life for granted. One example in particular is the freedom of the internet. Although Americans spend a large portion of their lives online, the fact that they can post online without having to worry about being thrown in prison rarely crosses one's mind. This freedom that most Americans take for granted is actually not universal. Throughout the world, censorship has steered millions of lives for the worse. Many cultural and racial catastrophes have been swiped under the rug and out of the view of the public because of rules and regulations that must be followed in different countries. The various types and degrees of censorship and how they affect the lives of people can be understood by looking at how country’s freedoms compare to another. By understanding this, we can apply this knowledge to reducing inequalities globally.
