Description

This session is a nuts and bolts overview on how Native-Americans are portrayed in Hollywood, advertising and mascots on sports teams. Resources packets with primary sources and reading selections will be provided to all attendees as well as strategies to address the issues of cultural contributions, ethics, stereotypes and prejudice. Handouts will also include tribes indigenous to Illinois and how to incorporate into the Common Core Standards. There will be a free raffle of Native-American resource materials for teachers for their classroom use.
