Abstract
Our group chose to reform Title IX because the wording is noninclusive and too open for interpretation. Since Title IX reads: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." The word “sex” refers only to biological sex, not gender expression. So, the Obama administration intter[reted Title IX to include transgender and gender-fluid individuals. However, the Trump administration claims that this does not include transgender and gender-fluid individuals. Therefore, in order to include everyone, we would prefer Title IX to read: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of gender, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Many lobbyist groups protested for Title IX to be passed. Title IX is implemented by monetary damages to federally funded institutions who do not comply. In order to achieve this, we would create an internet presence and do demonstrations such as protests. Within the IMSA community, we would hand out pronoun pins at Midday to raise awareness of the issue.
