Abstract
Before l begin to talk about the Academy, the myths handicapping gifted education, the needs of gifted students, and more specifically the reasons why we examined science and mathematics education -for academically talented youngsters, I want to set the stage and provide a context for my remarks. And so I want to read you a story that I hope will set a philosophical framework; it is entitled "The Animal School;" and it reads as follows:
