Description
Just as textual literacy is central to core standards, so is the ability to read maps both modern and old. Besides providing geographic information, maps are cultural documents. Furthermore, making maps based on evidence from multiple sources, including maps, texts, and icons, provides students an opportunity to formulate and make arguments in a different media. This presentation, then, will address the use of old and student-made maps in the classroom and how that addresses the Core Standards.
