Abstract
Our problem that we are targeting is the mental health at IMSA, specifically the stress caused by an extreme amount of overlapping assignments or tests scheduled on the same days or week. The pain points that result from this include lower quality work from students, high stress levels, and especially weak student-teacher communication. Our target audience is both students and the teachers of IMSA because of this, in which our solution will be able to benefit both. The UNSDG goals that our problem is targeting are decent work and economic growth, and good health and well being. In terms of past solutions, there haven’t been many successful ones. For instance, midday meetings between students and teachers, however scheduling conflicts can easily prevent those meetings from happening. Other than one on one meetings to discuss the workload, there isn’t a current way for teachers to see the other scheduled tests/projects from other teachers and accommodate for this to help spread out the workload rather than condensing it. We propose that we establish a calendar for students and teachers to access, which shows what all teachers have scheduled in terms of tests, projects or quizzes from each department (Math, English, etc.) for that particular day. The teachers will be able to view each others’ scheduled assignments and be able to accommodate for a large build up of assignments on a particular day or week if there seems to be a heavy workload compared to the usual one. We plan to use a newsletter/overview over gmail (or similar tactics in order to popularize) in order to popularize this specific calendar and remind teachers and students to check it in order to establish a more successful way of communication between them while also spreading out the workload to lower stress levels.
