Abstract

Our group decided to focus on addressing the 13th UNSDG, climate action. With climate change approaching, more solutions to save our planet need to be implemented. During the research phase, we found that droughts are becoming increasingly common. In California, especially the Bay Area, droughts harm the environment and daily lifestyles. Droughts also reduce water supply for people inhabiting the Bay Area. Sustainable water consumption is an essential factor in promoting climate activism. Our proposed product is a sensor attached to all common household appliances that use large amounts of water (washing machines, dishwashers, toilets). Our sensor will be called Water+ which would provide ways for users to lower water consumption based on the amount of water being used in their household. We hope to be able to implement this in many homes located in the Bay Area, to assist people in making good choices with their water.
