Abstract

Breast cancer in females is one of the most common cancers that is diagnosed in the United States. Breast cancer in males, on the other hand, ranks behind at least 30 other cancers yearly diagnosed in the United States. Although there are some anatomical differences between the two sexes, including females generally producing more estrogen than males, that does not fully explain the fact that men make up less than one percent of breast cancer diagnoses in the United States. The focus in this project is to analyze the multiple factors that contribute to the disparity between the two sexes including the social stigma that surrounds breast cancer in men. The project will be specifically focusing on a study done in which they make the comparison in a group of veterans.
