Abstract
Diabetes afflicts more than one third of the US and is among the top causes of death. The most scary fact is that 80% of people don’t know that they are at a high risk as it grows in our body without any visible symptoms. No wonder healthcare experts call it a Silent killer. Moreover, current methods of diabetes detection rely on drawing blood and require access to healthcare. We sought to create a better way of detection- introducing Diabilities, an AI based diabetes detection app that’s fast, convenient, cheap, and yet highly accurate. We found a database that constrained 250,000 records of 21 health and socioeconomic factors and diabetes status. As the next step, we trained a neural network model to establish a relationship between those 21 factors (combined) and Diabetes prediction. The final outcome was an AI powered consumer focused app that could instantly predict Diabetes with 96% accuracy. Since it’s a new way of diabetes detection, we will need to spend a lot on marketing and branding initially. We also plan to reach out to consumers through channel partners (such as healthcare providers, payers, lifestyle apps etc.). We will cover these expenses by charging a small fee- $2.99 for unlimited tests a year. As we grow, we expect marketing expenses to reduce, allowing us to invest the profits in community education and adding more features (such as including teenage data). This app can make a significant difference in Diabetes epidemic in the country.
