Abstract

This bill seeks to address the multiple barriers and hurdles that prevent equal access to ADHD prescription and medication. Despite the fact that ADHD is one of the most common neurological disorders in the country, hundreds of thousands of Americans, the majority of which from low-income or rural communities, are unfortunately undiagnosed and untreated due to the cost and social stigma surrounding psychiatric evaluations, a lack of qualified professionals capable of prescribing, and ongoing medication deficits caused by outdated Schedule II DEA quotas. By mandating nationwide insurance coverage for ADHD testing, altering the DEA’s quota system to better fit the needs of today, expanding prescription authority for ADHD treatment in underrepresented areas, and establishing federally funded ADHD screening protocols within public school systems. This goal aligns with UNSDG 3, which targets good health and wellbeing.
