Abstract
College tuition has increased dramatically in the United States, preventing many students the access to college. In response to the increase of college tuition, our group has decided to create a product, PQHA, that connects incoming college students with financial literacy topics in order to
assist them in the pursuit of higher education. By connecting students with this application, many students would have the opportunity for higher education, allowing them opportunities to succeed in life.
Our project relies on key ideas, with the four major ideas, financial literacy, scholarship navigation, loan repayment plans, and financial assistance through experts.
Educating students on financial literacy is a key component in the pursuit of higher education. Many students do not know how to be financially literate, leading them into debt and harming their chances of success. Our product includes knowledge about budgeting, tuition, financial aid, and post-graduation loan repayment plans.
By teaching individuals how to navigate scholarships and such, we can help students find potential funding sources based on their profile such as major, background, income, race, and other factors relating to the individual. So instead of students wasting time searching through multiple websites in order to find relevant scholarships, we can help them find scholarships in one place which increases their chances of getting funded.
We also have a loan comparison feature which breaks down private and federal loan repayment plans. They are able to be compared side by side which helps students understand the interest rates and future costs before they borrow money. We believe transparency is crucial in preventing students from taking on extra and risky debt.
Finally, we have an expert feature which helps students understand their financial aid package or planning a budget for the upcoming semester. We also will have reliable human support within the app 24/7. With this design, our platform aims to reduce the stress associated with college planning and help individuals succeed within college and after graduation.
