Abstract

Many students today have a time staying interested when they use traditional digital learning tools. They think these tools are boring and not related to things they really care about. Our project, Isle of Ascension, was made to fix this problem. It turns learning into a role-playing game that motivates students to take part in their education.

The main issue we looked at is that a lot of students are not engaged when they use educational apps and websites. These platforms often use methods where students just memorize and repeat things, which can be boring and does not help them remember things on the run. We thought that if we made learning more like a game students would be more interested and would learn more.

To try out this idea we made an app that's like a role-playing game. In this game students move forward by showing they understand subjects like math, science, English and social studies. By doing boring exercises players go on quests, solve problems and play interactive games that need critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The game also lets teachers and students customize it. It fits with what they are doing in class and works for different ages and learning styles.

We started by looking at what people do not like about educational tools. Then we made a version that is more fun and made a working prototype that you can play for about 9 or 10 hours. We also thought about how we can make it bigger and better, in the future with quests and updates. We even thought about how we can pay for it like getting schools to subscribe or getting money from investors. Isle of Ascension is different because it does not separate having fun and learning. It combines the Isle of Ascension and education. When you make progress in the game it means you are really learning something. This way students are not just having fun they are also getting better at things. Understanding them more. By making learning fun and rewarding, Isle of Ascension can help students want to learn more in school and remember what they learned for a long time.
