Abstract
Many individuals in our community, unaware of existing opportunities or how to access them, struggle to find different humanitarian resources in the area. This represents a prevalent issue that threatens the sustainable development of cities and the welfare of public communities. To resolve this issue, we propose ConnectMe, a mobile platform focused on connecting individuals to their communities and fostering community engagement. In alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal #11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities”, our social entrepreneurship venture would serve as a centralized hub where community members could easily discover and access various local resources and services in their area. As an initiative that values community support and civic engagement, our mission is to help people find essential community resources such as food shelters, homeless shelters, and donation centers. We also aim to encourage community involvement through volunteer opportunities and charitable events. ConnectMe addresses these priority areas, enabling those in need to find relief and aid while providing the opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to volunteer and serve their community.
This platform would be personalized on an individual basis, where each user has access to resources or locations they may require depending on their need, and can find their specific necessary services, by using a large database of local resources. We’d also implement social and support channels within ConnectMe to help the community connect with people with the same needs and allow them to get more personalized help based on their circumstances. On a local scale, our app connects community members with local services and humanitarian aid organizations like GoodWill and HesedHouse, and has the potential to expand in the future to globalized forms of support, such as national recycling centers. In order to ensure an accessible, user-friendly interface, we plan to partner with larger companies, such as Google Maps, to integrate intuitive software that allows users to visualize locations of different resources and opportunities for service. Additionally, to facilitate widespread awareness of our app, we plan to advertise on a variety of social media platforms, which the majority of our funds will go towards on top of improving the app, arranging events, and supporting philanthropic organizations. Our revenue comes from sponsorships, donations, and from organizations paying to be advertised on our platform. Ultimately, we aim to facilitate and personalize community support and engagement, enabling community members to connect with their communities and utilize the resources available in their area. We value promoting sustainability in local communities, and ConnectMe is the perfect solution.
