Abstract

Anna thought she was still asleep the first time she saw the girl in the snow. The whole thing had the drowsy feel of a snowbound winter dream. The sound of distant yelling—a female voice—had awoken her. Her sudden waking startled Lucy, who had snuck onto the bed sometime during the night. Lucy hissed and shot off in a streak of gray fur. Anna mumbled a few half-hearted swears in her wake. — Excerpt
