Description

This presentation explores instructional strategies to develop student awareness and understanding of the First Amendment, with special emphasis on Freedom of Speech. In alignment with the Common Core history standards for both reading and writing, presenters will share disciplinary literacy strategies utilizing a diverse text set, including text and non-text primary and secondary sources to strengthen historical thinking skills. Presenters will provide participants with a framework to support the skill development of students, emphasizing ninth grade, in the context of the Common Core Standards. Opportunities will be explored for multi-level flexibility.
