Purpose
Students moving to a new space are going to be exposed to people with differing identities from them as well as people with similar identities to them. Entering these conversations, whether you have experience with them or not, can be intimidating and students may feel judged or that they will be easily misunderstood. Through this program, students will think critically about the importance of understanding identity in understanding oneself, others, and how the world/society interacts with different people. Being able to navigate conversations surrounding identity and its impact on a person’s lived experience is essential to forming and sustaining relationships. Therefore, the purpose of this activity is to teach students the value of understanding the impact of identity and engaging in discussions about identity.
