Abstract
Leishmaniasis is a complex parasitic disease, with a majority of cases found in tropical areas and places where people cannot afford any treatment. However, many of these treatment options have failed due to the high risks of drug discovery. It is a common but complex practice that requires resources, multiple clinical trials, and understanding to create a harmless drug that can meet the post-approval stage and finally be sent out to the public. This project is centered on the synthesis of benzoxazole amide derivatives as possible treatments for leishmaniasis. This work is done as part of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi)’s Open Synthesis Network (OSN), where multiple derivatives of DNDi’s hit compound DNDI 0003202883 were then synthesized. The project began by completing initial synthesis steps, such as the reaction work-up and column chromatography to purify, and was later tested using IR. Results will be presented.
