Abstract
An efficient and sustainable source of energy is necessary to fuel the growing modern world. According to most official data collected, nuclear energy is a good source of energy, but is frequently unsafe and costly to produce (to safely protect against nuclear decay requires twelve feet of concrete, not to mention workers’ exposure to the gamma rays and the consequent health detriments). The best and safest choice of energy type easily available to us today, therefore, seems to be hydropower. Hydropower plants harness the kinetic energy already present in naturally-occurring river currents, and convert this energy to electricity. As hydropower is an important part of energy in the world it is important to understand it. Hydropower can be understood through data, data about the amount of energy that comes out of a plant, about the growth and expansion of hydropower plants around the world, and so on. In understanding these relationships and trends the impact of hydropower in the world can be explored and applied in the future.
