Abstract
In recent years, the US has faced its share of pandemics and outbreaks, but none have seemed to take as large of a toll as the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Taking a look at how past outbreaks were handled can help give clues to how present ones should be dealt with. The main two viruses focused on in the article are the Zika Virus, whose outbreak happened in 2016, and the Influenza Outbreak in 1918. With guiding statistics from those previous outbreaks, a deeper understanding can be found in how to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
