Abstract

Poverty is a large issue that affects students and schools across the country. In 2019, 10.5% of the US population was living in poverty. Poverty is also a large issue that affects students and schools in Illinois, including here in Aurora. Poverty negatively affects students and students affected by poverty usually perform poorly in school, face food insecurity, underfunding of schools and poor education, etc. There are students who currently attend IMSA that are affected by poverty and are yet still able to be accepted into the school, which is why we want to help develop some way to help these students. IMSA, knowing this, has since set up relief funds for students and their families and these relief funds and provide financial aid and technological equipment for students who need them, which have helped tremendously. We have taken notice and we want to help students who are living in poverty. We believe that in order to lessen the burden of poverty on these students, we need to encourage other schools in the surrounding area to develop something similar to what IMSA is doing. In our presentation you will be presented with our solutions and their benefits, which include advocacy and development of new systems.
