Abstract
Our project is based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation. A key component of this goal focuses on providing universal access to safe drinking water for all and adequate sanitation and hygiene for all, as mentioned on the United Nations’ webpage. Water is essential for human life to keep the functions of the body working well, and without a safe and affordable water supply, life can become compromised fast. With the Earth’s population reaching a population of an immense 8 billion people, this will require a higher demand in water supply. If this crisis is ignored, then water scarcity will become worse, especially in regions worldwide where water resources are already at a concerning level. This may cause a lower water supply as well as a new and tougher reality for people around the globe. In addition, natural disasters will occur more often as global warming continues to have a more severe impact on our planet. An increase in natural disasters may result in longer recovery periods after a natural disaster event given that there is a strain on water supply. The objective of our project is to explore the reasons behind the increasing water consumption in various countries and develop potential solutions as to how this crisis can be solved.
