Abstract

In recent years, the term neurodivergency has become more widely used. People are starting to accept that different people’s brains operate differently and this isn’t a bad thing. Schools are some of the first places students learn to socialize and are also filled with hindrances to learning for the nuerodivergent student body, such as overstimulation and a lack of patience. Not everyone is clear on what neurodivergency means or how being neurodivergent can affect people in places such as schools. Neurodivergent students may need extra help in certain areas and the school community should know how to accommodate them. 30% to 40% of the world’s population may be neurodivergent and they deserve to have their needs met, especially in a place as important as school. Our project aims to provide the educational programming needed for both students and teachers to understand what being neurodivergent means and how to make the environment as inclusive as possible for neurodivergent students.
