Abstract
Within the IMSA community, there are undoubtedly many issues that pose an environmental threat. However, the issue we’ve chosen to address is the excessive food waste produced by students at Lexington that we fail to deal with in an environmentally friendly manner. Specifically, the food waste we produce is left to decompose and release many tons of methane into the atmosphere. The solution we are going to implement contains two steps. First, we will implement bins in Lexington designated specifically for food waste(similar to composting). Secondly, we will put together a service that takes this food waste to biogas plants, which uses the methane produced to create energy. The UNSDG’s we will target are “climate action”, “life on land”, “responsible consumption and production”, and “sustainable cities and communities”. We hope to use our service to combat food waste and work towards those four UNSDG’s.
