Abstract
This project aims to address the challenges associated with urban development, particularly those relating to Euclidean Zoning and Suburban Sprawl (Urban Sprawl). Euclidean Zoning, through its failure to integrate efficient transportation (more emissions), violates sustainable development principles, while Suburban Sprawl contributes to inadequate community development, social segregation, through a lack of recreational areas. The Walkable and Liveable Communities bill features several key ideas, including tax incentives for affordable mixed-use zoning development, mandates for current Euclidean zoning to incorporate more human-scale and community-centric infrastructure such as sidewalks; physically separated bike highways; and affordable, pleasant housing. The bill's funding would come from various sources, including the United Nations World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, taxes, and the Highway Trust Fund. The project aims to promote the national implementation of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) 9: Industry, Innovation, and Architecture and 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
