Abstract
In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation proposed in the U.S. Though Illinois has been at the forefront of state protections for LGBTQIA+ populations, there are several harmful laws that have yet to be counteracted. The bill we propose targets the Religious Exemption for Medical Professionals law. This law permits people, churches, non-profit organizations, and corporations to seek exemptions from providing services that burden their religious beliefs, such as gender affirming care to trans and non-binary people. The bill we propose will work to entirely eliminate Religious Exemption for Medical Professionals law.
