Abstract
The complexity of the urban housing crisis is often overlooked and understated, by both the public and by aid organizations. Simply having a lease to your name does not exempt one from living in a state of home insecurity. In truth, this residential instability exists in a wide range of experiences. From too-big families in too-small apartments to a lack of proper utilities, or a conglomerate of students too inexperienced to find safe and affordable living space. Increased rental rates or neglectful landlords. Tenants and renters often find themselves in perilous circumstances that suburban and rural homeowners do not encounter. However, these issues are consistently ignored in favor of the more palatable, straightforward idea of urban homelessness. The idea that victims of housing insecurity are a monolith. In this project we aim to discuss and encapsulate the depths of this issue, in hopes that we can move toward a grander distribution of effort and resources to those who remain struggling.
