Abstract
American women should have an unrestricted right to an abortion up until fetal viability in all 50 states. Women across the country are routinely denied access to healthcare and their ability to exercise their natural rights. Abortion has always been highly controversial. Anti-abortion sentiment is often motivated by religion, but it is important to separate religious beliefs and legislation. Based upon the constitution, every citizen of the United States has the freedom to make their own choices. In the cases of non-consensual pregnancy, such as through rape or incest, having a child can worsen the trauma and create an unsafe environment for both the mother and child. It is necessary for the United States of America’s constitution to withhold an amendment that protects a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. By including this newly proposed amendment, women will be protected nationally from the unconstitutional laws that force women to give birth under any and all circumstances.
