Abstract

Plastic for Profit Program (PPP), focuses on addressing plastic pollution while supporting Climate Action by creating a system where people are paid one cent per liter. One of the main issues we are targeting is the lack of motivation for individuals to properly recycle, which leads to large amounts of reusable plastic ending up in landfills and oceans. By offering a small financial incentive, we encourage community members to participate in reducing waste. The collected plastic is then reused to create and sell new products such as Lego-style bricks and bracelets, forming a sustainable cycle that benefits both the environment and the economy. Through this approach, we aim to make recycling more accessible, support lower-income communities, and strengthen overall community involvement in climate action. For our project we decided to make sustainable bird houses out of recycled materials. This would help the UNSDG goal of Life on Land. This bird feeder would impact the target audience of people near to forest reserves or those just looking for birds in their backyard. We see the concerns with the environment and how nature plays an avid role in daily life. We wanted to tie together humans and birds and this is a great way to do it. While saving the organisms on this planet, we have to save their environment as well. The perfect way to do this is to use 100% recycled materials in our project.  The goal for our business is to better impact the world. We want to start in a building making our own then reach out to local forest reserves to help bring the community into it as well. We would have classes teaching the community how to make their own nectar, or feeder. For our business, we would like to sell our humming bird feeders for $16 and our normal feeders $20. In addition to this, the class would be $30 with the addition of feed. The feed by itself would be $10 and the nectar $8. We plan to have a warehouse that can host both the classes and the manufacturing of the product. Customers can pay for shipping or come to the warehouse free of charge to pick it up. The adult birds bring their offspring plastic, thinking that it’s food. As a result, 40% percent of their chicks die before fledging, due to plastic ingestion. This needs to stop and we wanna make it happen. We hope to make a successful product to not only positively impact the people on this planet but nature as well.
