Abstract

Climate Illiteracy has become prevalent around the United States, with previous studies finding that only 8% of American adults understand climate change. To combat this in Illinois, a non-profit organization, Subject To Climate authored bill HB4895. The success, however, was limited. From the Subject To Climate Illinois website: “In 2024, Illinois passed HB 4895, requiring public schools to teach climate change by 2026–2027—a milestone driven by student advocates but left unfunded.” So, for SLX we plan to create a comprehensive climate curriculum that strives to provide accessible education on environmental issues in the modern day. The curriculum is designed to be short and easily understandable by students, so it is feasible to implement by existing teachers. This way, costs are minimized, as the additional employment of science teachers is unnecessary.
