Abstract
The third UNSDG goal focuses on ensuring good health and well-being for all. Global maternal mortality was 197 per 100,000 live births in 2023, while US maternal mortality was 18.6 per 100,000 in 2023. This mortality rate is skewed toward people in a lower economic state, especially in areas with a lower average income, such as rural areas. We can ensure the reduction of maternal/child mortality by providing safe, and clean clinics for pregnant individuals to give birth in through a bill that will allow clinics to open up. These clinics will offer a safe and sanitary place where pregnant individuals can give birth without the worry of money. Although these clinics won’t provide completely free healthcare, their aim is to drastically decrease the price of the operation. Giving birth should not be an incredibly strenuous and stressful process, and providing these low cost, but still effective clinics can help widely. We will be proposing this program via a bill, which we will hope to pass throughout the state of Illinois.
