Abstract
Climate change is becoming a far greater concern than ever before as the effects of natural disasters are multiplying. The use of fossil fuels is a major cause of climate change. As such, an effective way of combating climate change is to switch to renewable sources of energy, like solar. While solar panels are being implemented, they come at a great cost to homeowners and there are many legal restrictions placed on how to install solar panels especially in smaller communities and local governments. That is why not enough homeowners in Illinois are willing to implement solar panels in their homes. To improve citizens’ access to solar energy, we thought shining light on the topic to state legislators would have a great impact. We will share a letter with the state lawmakers highlighting the importance of solar panel access and the drawbacks of the restrictions across the state that deprive people of this access. This will show the issue clearly and concisely to legislators as well as to the people affected by restrictive solar panel laws.
