Abstract

Waste in Lexington is both an environmental and financial concern that does not have much being done about it. This proposed solution aims to make the leftover food each day available to students outside of meal time. Our solution really solves several problems, it feeds IMSA students who didn't have time for meals during meal time, it reduce IMSA's food waste, and can help students get volunteer hours in as it will be run by volunteers with off mods and free time after school. This program would be similar to grab-and-go but would use leftovers from previous meals. Because it is run by students for students we wouldn't require outside funding or resources. But because Studco works closely with Lexington we would need to liason our program through them, and they would also assist us in getting word out to volunteers, who make sure everyone scans their ID's. Overall our plan includes reducing the amount of food Lexington wastes and making it avaliable to students outside of meal times.
