Abstract
According to research, over 85% of textiles are discarded each year. People often throw away their clothes when they have small tears or damage, don’t fit properly, or don’t know where to donate or recycle them. When considering these pain points, we wanted to create something to work against clothing waste. Our app efficiently solves this problem. Our project plans to combat the fast fashion industry along with clothing waste through an app called Mend & Send. This app is designed to help users extend the life of their clothing by offering instructions for repairing, resizing, donating, or recycling items instead of just throwing them away. The app allows users to take a photo of any clothing item and gives them personalized and step-by-step instructions for how to fix or alter it. This app promotes more sustainable consumer habits by encouraging reuse and recycling over discarding items. Overall, our app helps to reduce textile waste, save consumer money, and prevent overproduction and overconsumption. This will create a healthier environment and support the UNSDG goal 12 of responsible consumption and production.
